Cape York Spotted Feeder Problem...advice/tips?

arboreals Jun 20, 2004 01:12 AM

Had her about a week and a half now. The male has already taken down his first a few days ago. I've left 2 in with her overnight. Tried scenting with a lizard. I'm tempted to try scenting with a tree frog if that doesn't work trying a baby tree frog or a gecko. I want to get her started already. So what do you think?

First, contact the breeder. Has this snake ever eaten? Or was it hatched and shipped?

Next - evaluate your setup. Our baby Antaresia are kept in small shoeboxes, with a small hide (typically a jar lid with a hole cut in the side is big enough for most baby Antaresia). We provide a small water dish, and temperatures range from 76-78 at the front of the bin to a little over 90 at the rear of the bin.

Have you tried leaving it in a small deli cup for a few hours at night, with a live day old mouse pink? That sometimes works...

*Didn't get the pair from the breeder. I got them through a broker/breeder that bought them all wholesale. They are VPI Cape york stock. I was told they have eaten. I was told to just thaw out a pink and leave it in the container overnight which is what I did. Male took female didn't.

*I have them in something a bit smaller then a shoebox rubbermaid which they will be switched over to. Set-up seems fine, I just don't know?

I've also tried scenting with a lizard I caught outside that was shedding. I just want to get her started already! She doesn't look like she's in shed either.
