First brb, a few q's

Bodhisdad Jun 20, 2004 07:37 AM

Hi all, I just got my first brb, from captive bred specalties. I have him housed in a 20h glass aquarium w/ plexi lid. Jungle mix substrate, clay saucer hides one on each end, water dish, some climbing branches. I'm usung an 8" uth, w/ ranco thermostat. I currently have it set at 81 degrees. Is this where I want it or would a couple of degrees higher be o.k. the cool end of the tank is 74-75. Also is to much humidity a bad thing, as most of the tank is fogged up. This is due to the fact that I put his hollowed out stump in the dishwasher, as mine has a sanirinse cycle that kills germs/bacteria. As that dries out I'm sure the humidity will drop as well. I didn't saturate the dampin, as I figured this would happen. I have been lurking here for a couple of weeks now, just doing the basic research thing. As of right now I feel I have a good understanding of the requirements of my little guy. If any feel I have missed something feel free to let me know, as that is why I'm here. I plan to keep the handling down to a minimum for the next week, I plan to attempt a feeding by the end of next week as well. Sorry so long, but without all the details you folks got nothing to go on. I also currently have 3 ackies (monitors) and a single Argus monitor. This is my first Boa. Thanx for reading, responding. Clint

brazilian rainbows prever a high humidity level adults at around 80 and young ones at around 70 but beware to not let the entire bottem get wet because if it gets so wet they dont have a decent place to sleep on it and can cause skin disease.

but its better to w8 for jeff clark to respond at your msg
hes the man.

hehe

Hey Clint,
I think your good to go. Babies need the high humidity; 80% is sufficient. As adults they do well with less humidity (still around 70% is good with a large water bath for soaking). I'm not sure what a 20h aquarium dimensions are but I'm guessing not alot of floor space? 81 is good, if you had more horizontal area you could bump the temps up a bit on the warm side. Its just critical for them to find cooler temps. Your cool side sounds perfect to me. I find all my BRB's spend the majority of their time where the temp is in the high 70's (and mine are exposed to a gradient of 70 to 90).
