Anon Snake

machellesalmeen Jun 20, 2004 09:03 AM

Hello,
My sister posted a message here yesterday about a new pet that's been given to us. Around my area people who get sick of thier pets usually 'give' them to us to take care of; so far we've had fish, lizards a snake and numerous dogs. A few days ago my father brought home a snake in a jar with a screw top half filled with water. I was told by the previous owners that the snake was put in a half filled aquarium, and that it was fed fish food. I don't know if it had been feeding or how long they have had it but i had posted the pictures in my yahoo website for veiwing.
I live in Kuwait, in the middle east. I don't think the snake is from around here, and if it was, i doubt it is a water snake as i know quite a lot about them and havent seen one like that before. I put the snake in an aquarium with a dry area and it has remained there for the past few nights. I would like to knoww any information that you can give me as to what this snake is so i can find more information as to how to take care of it.
Thanks a lot

Hello. It looks like some kind of a Psammophis. Maby Psammophis condanarus? Hard to tell from the pictures.

Certainly looks like a Psammophis. P. schokari is another possibility.

In any case it does not live in the water. it is terrestrial, probably frequenting small bushes. Food can be lizards, small snakes, rodents or birds (depending on species).

Mildly venomous.

looks like a shoe lace from a loafer to me...... are you sure your not looking down at your feet?

Yeah, the pix were a little unfocused...but the last time I looked at a pair of loafers, they didn't have any shoelaces.

It is most likely a Ribbon Snake, not sure what kind not enough info... but get it out that tank with 1/2 filled water! Redue the tank and DO NOT feed it fish flakes, that is rediculous. Use a newspaper substrate, hide box and a bowl big enough to bath in filled 3/4 w/ water. Try feeding it feeder fish.
