help! new to the turtle scene

scrapperteach Jun 20, 2004 04:34 PM

Hi y'all! A turtle laid her eggs in my front yard today and I was wondering what kind she is. I live in eastern North Carolina with a creek about 1/4 mile away and lots of woods. She has yellow strips on her head and neck but her shell is so dirty and covered with algae that I'm not sure what it looks like. Her shell is about 11 inches long.

I have lots of pictures but don't know how to attach one here. Can anyone help me?

It is most likely a red ear slider, they are very very common.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure it's not a red eared slider because she doesn't have the red spots. I thought perhaps a yellow bellied slider or a river cooter. Without being able to show the pictures it's probably hard to tell.
