Worried

Norbertdragon Jun 20, 2004 07:51 PM

My norbert had some spots like that( sort of like a bump were there is some shed build up)one on his knee and on his tail that I assumed it was just shed build up but today I took him out and there was a bit of a pinkish hue to it and he looked like it was sore! maybe even missing a few scales in those spots, now I am worried for him, he gets pelenty of greens, his tank is plenty warm, and I try to make sure there aren't too many crikets in there at night left over when I get to bed, I don't know what it could be and now I am worried will take him to the vet tommarow but if any one has advice please help, tried to staralize the spots and put some aloe vera on them, is there anything else I can do? what could it be?

oh yeah just wanted to mention that he is still walking fine, and eating, worried he may lose part of his tail now though, he hasn't been acting like he is in pain or anything, does not appear to be limping on that leg, gave him a soak a while back(a couple weeks ago) and was planning on giving him another soon, even though he doesn't like it much.

Well without pics to look at I'd say take him to a vet. Those may be abscesses that were caused by a gnawing cricket. One thing you must make sure you do is get every single one of the crickets out that he doesn't eat. It only takes one hungry cricket to gnaw an eyelid off regardless of how many have the opportunity.

I guess a good thing to do immediately would be to put some neosporin on it but I'd still take him to the vet to be sure.

would be mites....look around the corners of his cage for little (very little) white spider looking creatures. red spots is uaually a sign of mites, or at least it has been in my experience

i would recomend a vet visit to be sure of his problem though.

took him to the vet today, he said it looked like some sort of bactieral infection and gave me some anti biotics, though I asked what could cause it and the causes he said were usally either not the right nutrition, not the right temp, or old age, he gets lots of greens and I try to watch his diet well, he is only 1 and 1/2 going on two, and his cage is plenty warm, so I am really not sure what caused it, will look for mites tomarrow and see if I see any, is too dark right now to see well,I will probably clean his cage out really well tomarrow thank you all for the advice, I think he will be fine, though he may lose that part of his tail, I hear beardies can live fine even missing the tip of their tail he is a pretty tough guy, thanks again, feels better now that I've got meds to treat it with.
