Blood Python Physique

Giantrobo Jun 21, 2004 06:34 AM

I've always liked Bloods but I never thought of getting one until I fell in love with an adult Blood at a Reptile show last weekend. I also got bit by a juvenile at the same show but it was small and I've been bitten by Red Tails before so it wasn't a big deal LOL.

Anyway, not only did I fall in love with the beautiful color varitations I fell in love with this animal's "beefiness". It's a fascinating charactistic of this animal and why I'm posting this post.

Why are they so thick? Is there a practical reason for it? Something in their environment? Something that helps them deal with their natuaral prey? Fat storage?

I'm not 100% sure but I once read that blood pythons where once venomous. They supposeately still have remenant venom pits in the roof of their mouth. If you look at a lot of gabboon vipers or rattle snakes they are built just like bloods, short and stocky.Like a faarakeen tank.I love it.I hope you decide to get one.You won't be dissapointed.

That's interesting and yes they do resemble those others snakes now that you mention it. I do hope I can find the right one when the time is right.
