overdue eggs, advice

clemie Jun 21, 2004 07:59 AM

Hi

I have 11 eggs in my incubator and am on day 62 of incubation at temps of between 82 - 84 degrees. I was wondering if i should start to think about pipping the eggs myself and making a little hole for the babies, or should i just wait, and if I should wait, how long before i should think about pipping a hole for the young.

This is my first year at breeding and im getting a little worried that they my not hatch.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Clem.

Hi,

To early to slit the eggs average hatching is at least the 68 - 69 days

overdue??? when people give thier incubation lengths, you should use them as a general guide and not as a rule.I have many clutches here beyond 60 days. my first cornsnake clutch of the year started pipping yesterday at 83 days.I do tend to keep my eggs a litle cooler then a lot of others though(around 80-83).It's hard to be patient, I almost cut one of my eggs the other night and then candled one insted.I'm glad I waited.

A lot of people have a themometer in the incubator but not in the incubation medium. If it is 82-84 in the incubator it is probably a few degrees color where the eggs are. I incubated mine with an air temp (not medium temp) of 82-84 and my hatched at around 73-75 days, even longer for the bins that were on the bottom of the incubator. Don't worry yet!

Hi

Last night at 7pm 4 had pipped, when i checked again on them this morning 1 was fully out. At lunch time 3 were fully out and the remaining 8 eggs all pipped and on their way.

So hopefully when I get home from work, some more may have made their way completely out.

Thanks for all you advice with this.
Matt
