Orion was moved into her new cage on the weekend. She wasn't too sure about it at first, but now she LOVES it. I got a T-rex MV light for it. I also use the spot light from her old cage, because I didn't think it was quite bright enough without it. With all of the lights off the cage is VERY dark, even in the day. It look ok I think. This was my first time building anything since gr 9 tech, so it's not so bad. It's five feet tall, three feet wide, and two feet deep. I stained it dark mahogany and varnished it up all pretty. The door is crooked, lol. I used aluminum screen AND plastic hardware cloth stuff. I wanted the crickets to stay in, and also for her toes to not get caught. The damned things can get out in the crack between the door and the frame, so much for that. Lol. Oh well... it's a learning curve I suppose. She'll have to live with cup-feeding, lol.
I also got her some waxworms. She ate a ton this time. I think I'll get some silkies and try them this weekend. If she'll eat them I'll start breeding them. I hope she likes them...
Orion has gotten so BIG! She's 4" NTV now! Her colours are looking wonderful too... I get my pics back from the photolab tomorrow... I'll try and have them scanned for this weekend. I hope they turned out!
I spend WAY more on her cage than I anticipated... Spoiled lil bugger! I think I got $100 worth of new plants, $100 for lumber and stain, another $100 for the screening and another thing of stain, and then I spent $200 for the new bulb, fixture, and stand. This is in CDN money, but still! Lol. And the cage is a little crooked.
I am thinking about getting two panthers to start breeding in the spring. I wanted to use Orion, but my dad pointed out that I can't verify if she is purebred. I think that if you want a good reputation as a breeder, you HAVE to know what you are breeding. I may use Orion and sell her babies to pet stores. I know a few good ones around here (I know, it's almost shocking) and they don't always care if they are pureblooded or not. Obviously... Orion isn't a male! Who knows if she's an Ambanja... lol. Anyways, I will build three cages that fit together and are divided down the middle I think. I'lljust use some of the wood and hardware from Orion's cage. Or maybe I'll keep it and build two more. .. I don't know yet. I can't decided if I like it or if it's ugly, lol.
Well... I guess this is long enough. Orion eats about 10 medium crix a day, as well as 2 mealies and a wax worm or two (when I have them). I know, the worms are bad. I've been watching her stool, and so far so good. I want her to catch up in growing a bit, and so far it's going well. I'll get her on silkies instead of mealies asap.
Bye everyone! All my luv,
~Lindsay

About your cage...if you made, you should be incredibly proud of it!!
It was made out of love and caring...which makes it beautiful...even if the door IS crooked! I bet it looks great. We're our own worst critics.

I'm in the process of building a cage, on my own...no help from Dad, for my PTS. EEEEEK! I'm actually remodeling a wall unit. I'm taking my time with it, and when I get frustrated, I take a break. I'm sure it will hilarious when compared to the one my dad made!

I'm SO happy to hear about Orion growing up, and doing well! After all those tense, worrisome moments not all that long ago.
Do you have "before and after" pics of Orion? When she was not feeling well, and little, and now? It'd be nice to see how far she's come along.

Did you ever see my post to you a while back, about where the reptile expos are, around us?

I just LOVE happy posts!

I have some pics I took a while back of Orion with a digi cam. They aren't the best quality though. I just got my film back today and there are some AWESOME shots of her... A friend of mine has a scanner, and I will try and get them scanned sometime this week.

I didn't get the reply about the expos. Could you send it again, but through the email function on here? I might not find it on here lol. There are just so many new posts every day! It's hard to keep up!
