Five Days Of Sheer Heartache

PHEve Jun 21, 2004 11:06 AM

Last weds. when I received my hatchling nebruis from Will, I was getting them settled in the reptile room.
Kong my Big Beauty (Aquaflame) Friend was hanging around my feet, and I was talking to him.

I got the babies set up, took pics(you remember) got the boxes they came in, thought I better look inside to make sure Kongs not in there, and kinda laughed it off, put the boxes outside the door in my upstairs hallway!

Did a few more things, then had to cook dinner. Grabbed the empty boxes and put them out for trash.

Thursday, next morning, Kong never appeared from under his rock to go to his basking spot(he free roams the room). All day I looked No KONG !

Kong is so friendly and lurks around my feet all the time, I KNEW he would never hide. FRI- SAT - SUN still no kong, I had looked in all bedrooms, tore things apart everywhere for days.

My husband thought I must have been careless, and he was in the boxes I put out, and said he felt badly but I should have been more careful.

I was so darn sad, but I knew I checked the boxes and kept telling him that. (Dont think he believed me) Which made it worse. Because all facts were in KONG was gone!

Anyway, Today is the 5th day, and ole PHEve broke down. My GOOD Hubby knew then how this was tearing me up, decided to take off and help me look for him.

The ONLY thing in my reptile room furniture wise is a wall long row of old kitchen cabnets like counter height with a large wooden plank (was my work bench) for stained glass before I turned it into a reptile room.

Anyway I have 3 - 40 wide breeder tanks up there. My Husband said empty all those big tanks of their boulders, LOL and slate bricks sand, we will lift them all off and pull out the cabinets.

He kinda walked them out enough for me to get behind them, one of the cabinets in the back had a wooden back, but was open on the bottom about 3 inches , I got down on my knees and

LOW AND BEHOLD A BIG OLE KONG MOUTH OPENED UP IN FEAR TO BITE ME

LMAO I was so happy I felt a 500 lb weight leave my chest and stomach, I reached in and got my big buddy, and he layed in my hand very content to be RESCUED !

I have wood halfway up the sides where the cabinets are not flush with wall, he must have stood on a cricket container there and jumped and got over the wood, and could not get back out. Got cold, and stayed sleeping.

I cant tell you the sinking sick feeling I have had for these 5 days.

I know hes a lizard but I can also say you can really bond with these guys.

There was such an EMPTINESS in that room lately, with all those other lizards (ALOT) He is such a MAJOR presence !

I thnaked my Husband for finally believing me that I did check the boxes before throwing them away. I thank him for taking the day off to help me find KONG !

I also Thank you Johneee, for your emails and your sweet offer, your a good friend.

I will always remember what ya said ! Just as I treasure your gift !

WHEW thankd guys for lettign me get all that out! LOL

I know that feeling!
I lost a fem a few years ago, and our buddy came to my rescue and sent me a female to replace her. Wouldn't you know it, the very next day (3 mos after she went missing) I found her INSIDE my HP printer!! All skinny and dry, but alive!
Us lizard folks have to take care of our own! We would've done all we could to help you out!
Keep us posted on your scaley critters!!

Don

ps, keep posting your website link, I like seeing your picts!

I felt sick too when you said there was concern you tossed him out with the trash! Whew...can laugh about it now. I hope you guys fixed that area so this won't happen again.

I'm so happy you found him, Eve.

...as usual, I'm late to the party (dang second shift). WAY cool that you found the Lizard Brat. I think he deserves a vacation in the Scenic Virginia Highlands after that sort of ordeal. You know the address LOL.

...had a couple of new Irish Dexter calves born Sunday, they are little beauties, but they are being hidden out by the moms at the moment so I don't know the genders. And, no, no VENT PICS are needed LOL! For now they are 0.0.2. And Nina got me a MASTIFF on Sunday too (I suppose to round out her herd of Chinese Cresteds LOL). And then there were the million rabbits we got LAST Sunday....
Sunday is a hazardous day!

Wow, a mastiff AND cresteds! My sister has a Chinese Crested, very sweet pup but OBNOXIOUS! I always loved mastiffs, somehow I get stuck with stray mutts . I love my boys, I have 4 males, walking them takes 45 min. Each has to mark every tree that the previous marked plus 2 or 3 of their own.

Silly boys.

Wow, a mastiff AND cresteds! My sister has a Chinese Crested, very sweet pup but OBNOXIOUS!

We have four cresteds (1.3). All of them are COMPLETELY different!

I always loved mastiffs, somehow I get stuck with stray mutts.

This one is a "stray" Mastiff LOL. (We do breed rescue for several breeds). Very nice girl.

I love my boys, I have 4 males, walking them takes 45 min. Each has to mark every tree that the previous marked plus 2 or 3 of their own. Silly boys.

I have ALWAYS preferred *FEMALES (yes, I see that Kingsnake will not allow the perfectly correct word in dogspeak which begins with a B, it must cause them an itch or something). We call the males "dispensers" however! I'm sure Eve will vouch for the superiority of the females in nearly every species LOL.

Hey Don, Nina is teaching you well, hahahhaa ! I like your doggie also, like big doggies. My old englishes are not as massive, but thye are big and hairy,

Funny, I like female dogs, they are very sweet, but I think Males are cleaner, I had a couple females that were lazy about going out, at times though my life.

Had a female britney spaniel , and a femele adopted, beagle (my brother's wife did not like her) so we took her. I think the reason being she never potty trained her right.

That little girl would stay out for an hour and come in and wee - wee on the floor.

But I LOVE DOGS definitely WOMANS BEST FRIEND, LOL

...Nina and I both used to breed and show Bullmastiffs. I have had several B*females which would not even have the first pup from a litter in the house in their whelping quarters, since they were so certain that they should not make a "mess" in the house! We used to have to follow them out with a flashlight everytime they went outside to potty when they were due LOL. Most cresteds we see in rescue are there because they haven't been house trained in the slightest. It CAN be done, there is HOPE!
