JACKED UP RINGNECK

BRYAN139 Jun 21, 2004 11:07 AM

OK, I POSTED THIS IN THE OTHER FORUM, I FIGURED OVER HERE COULDN'T HURT EITHER. FEEDING ASIDE (I'M CONFIDENT AFTER DEALING WITH SOME REAL PAIN IN THE BUTT PYTHONS I CAN GET HIM TO EAT) DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW I COULD SPEED UP THIS LITTLE GUYS RECOVERY? HE WAS FOUND WHILE HIKING AND LOOKED TO BE IN PRETTY BAD SHAPE SO I DECIDED TO BRING HIM HOME AND TRY TO HELP HIM RECOVER AND THEN RELAESE HIM.

I have one (looks the same as yours from the top anyway) in a tank on my desk recovering from a nasty episode in which he was quite tangled up in masking tape. That's another rescue story.... I have a substrate of 30-40 percent natural sand and the balance is bed-a-beast with some leaf matter thrown in for good measure. It's about 3 inches deep and moist-not-wet. There is a soaking dish which he uses daily. I left 3 red wigglers and a mealworm in the soil. I’ll take a head count at the end of the week. The tank receives indirect sunlight and I don't have a lamp on it yet because I haven't found one small enough. This snake likes to hide and seems comfortable, though of course he wants out. I'm waiting until I can tell that he moves gracefully again. I don't know how his condition compares to the one you have there, but I hope the housing info helps with his recovery. Karen

THANKS, BUT SORRY TO SAY THE LITTLE GUY DIDN'T MAKE IT. THE LAST 3 INCHES OF HIS TAIL WERE GONE, WHICH WAS WELL PAST THE LITTLE BUTT VENT. HE WOULD HAVE DIED IF I LEFT HIM THERE BUT AT LEASE I TRIED. THANKS FOR THE ADVISE THOUGH.

It's good that you tried though. We rescued a ground snake last week that seemed to get better over a couple of days, then died. This ringneck is looking fine, though it hasn't eaten yet. Thanks for trying, Karen
