Breeding question

ciliatus Jun 21, 2004 12:03 PM

hi there,

is there anything i should take care of, when raising young hatchlings? i mean except keeping them single, and always have proper temperature and humidity?
how do you get your young hatchlings to eat? i currently try to feed them fresh made fruit mash and micro crickets. but it seems a lot of crickets stay alive and since they are so small i cant tell if they eat fruit mash.

thank you

ingo

hmm, i tried to handfeed them, but they are
very jumpy and werent very interested, perhaps
they already have eaten from the mash.

so you think that handfeeding would be the best?
how about placing them in a completley naked box
so they can find crickets easier?
(those little crickets always crawl beneath the paper
towel)

thank you

I find that new born cresteds do MUCH better in small cages. I house them in the small Kritter carriers 9.125´´ x 6´´ x 6.625´´

Half flower pot as a hide, 2 liter bottle cap for water dish, stick placed diagonally from top to opposite bottom corner and paper towel substrate.

That housing will easily work for at least 3 to 4 months of age.

Some babies take quite a while (weeks) before they actively feed, others eat right away. Never had one not begin to eat at some point.

thanks for the answer. i keep them in small cages already,
i will remove the small bark-pieces and use plastic as hides, so the crickets will even have less places to hide.
my oldest babies are about 2 weeks old.

bye
