Not basking yet???

civa Jun 21, 2004 01:19 PM

I have had my dumerils now for 2 months and I have yet to see him bask. On the hot side of the cage it is like 115 F at the highest branch point. On the suface of the substrate it is 95-100 F. The cooler side of the cage is 82F. He burrows alot(on both hot and cold sides of the cage) and soaks in the water alot but no basking. Should I be worried ? is it to hot? He also is eating crickets and pinkies everyday. Any one have a diet for dumerils that they would recommend?

thanks in advance.

You might want to try different temps for basking. But maybe he feels he's basking when he is at his surface temp. They have there likes and dislikes.

As far as a diet gose I wouldn't make a rodent based diet for any monitor, because I think that they are to fatty, but that's just me. I;m sure there's tons of people who will argue for rodent based diets.
