Exo Terra Jungle Earth

titustetricus Jun 21, 2004 05:20 PM

I just bought 2 bags of Exo Terra jungle earth, the store was out of cypress mulch. I opened up the bag and it smells a little like cedar. Does anyone know if this stuff contains cedar? I can't find anything on their site or on the bag about what it may contain. Any help would be great as I already emptied the cage of mulch.

Titustetricus,
. I have used what I think is a very similar product. It is Eco Earth from Zoo Med. The lable on this one says that it is compressed coconut fiber expandable substrate. Most of these products list the contents somewhere on the lable. I can't imagine that Exo Terra would sell anything for reptiles with cedar in it. The only drawback to Eco Earth is that BRBs will burrow in it and some of it comes with the snake when you take it out of the cage. If you have carpets in the snake room you get the substrate on the carpet. For this reason I like the chipped coconut hull products better because the chips are big enough that they do not stick to the snake when you pick the snake up.

Jeff and Titustetricus,

I use 'Exo Terra Forest Earth' - it too smells of cedar. The label only reads made of 'All Natural Fir Bark'.

There is a large snake on the bag (which doesn't say much)... but considering the size and reputation of the company, they wouldn't make a mistake of that magnitude.

Also, some other herpers that I know regularly use it.

Sorry I can't be 100% certain...
