Shipping With Regular USPS???

restlesswind444 Jun 21, 2004 07:50 PM

Someone told me that they use regular mail...usps...to ship geckos and that it saves money...Any opinions on this? Anyone done it before?
Thanks,
Chris

My crested was deliverd by USPS, arrival before 10:30. Perfectly healthy crestie. I like them over the UPS people who shipped my blood, that < expletive > shook the box my snake was in.

I used to ship only through the Post Office and never had a problem. However, they are nowhere near as timely as UPS and won't make sure someone signs for the package as UPS does. They don't ship their Express Mail overnight(sometimes 2 days), and they don't always tell you this when you're shipping them out. There was a person on this forum who had to wait a couple days for her 'overnight' Express Mailed-geckos this past winter. They lived, miraculously, but not something I want to deal with anymore. UPS just seems to treat their packages better.

None of the shipping services knowingly ship snakes, so your blood shouldn't have been in there to begin with. I don't really understand what your argument against UPS is because it got censored, but it seems you are saying they shook your snake?

Regardless, I (and many others) have been shipping for years and have had the best service with UPS and will continue to use them, even though it usually costs about $10 more per shipment. That's a small price to pay for the health and safety of my animals. I won't offer a live arrival guarantee anymore for geckos shipped through the post office and will try to discourage anyone who tries to get me to ship them that way(if I do it at all).

Take the time to get authorized to ship through UPS. You should feel better about it in the long run.
