Bonita came home Sat morning. Her eye was so big she looked kind of like Will's gimp eye baby, except her good eye was the equivalent of the baby's gimp! The incision posterior to the eye to relieve the abcess pressure has been draining, as has the opening into the mouth. Unfortunately the edema present throughout the skull has not decreased and neither has the swelling around and behind the eye. In fact this afternoon the eye was slightly worse. She has been getting an antibiotic ointment on the eye 3x a day for 5 days (a different A/B than I was giving)she was on Baytril injections for 5 days until we switched to Cipro on Thursday.
The most frustrating and difficult part is that while she has no interest in crickets she has been eating wax worms and mealies like crazy. She basks and jumps all day. She struggles and attempts to escape every time she is handled to administer the meds.
I discussed our options with the vet this afternoon.
1) we can switch the eye meds (an admittedly hopeless option)
2) we can remove the eye and possibly remove the root of the problem (most lkely not the original prob)
3) euthanize knowing that we tried almost everyhting

The vet told me what I already thought, the abcess/infection is almost everywhere in the skull,it would be very difficult to fight it, even with the eye removed.

I plan to take some pictures before she is euthanized so that y'all can see the extent of the swelling.

Thank you everyone that has offered support and prayers for Bonita. I appreciate it immensely.

Laura

Laura, there is nooooooooooooo chance it will straighten out itself?

This is so dang sad, what does she think the root cause was?

Well do what you think is best, and not that it helps much but remember we are all here, if you want to talk. I know how upseting these things are.

Can only hope she begins to do better , before you have to do that.

But I understand, let us know how things are, take care, very sorry about Bonita's eye!

it always sucks having to make this kind of decision but do keep in mind that when an animal is hurt and can no longer do anything, it is no fun for them anymore as much as it makes us sad when they are not there.
i will be thinking of you all and i am sure everything will work out the best possible way in such a bad situation. give her a kiss for me.
