burm? hybrid? pattern?

theMAC Jun 21, 2004 09:27 PM

Well, soft hearted me, I took this gal out of a tiny box on a cold porch a couple months ago. Isolated, treated for mites, given a hide box & water bowl, kept warm with good humidity and a regular light cycle and what do you know....she's feeling good and eating well. She was very thin when I got her. After 2 months of jumbo rats every 6-10 days (that's the same feeding schedule my 8'/33# colombian boa is on) she's 8' and 12#. She just shed so I decided to a snap a pic and see if anyone can give me some idea what pattern this is or if this is even a burm. (I was told it was but I haven't had any luck finding a similar pic yet) Someone suggested it might be a hybrid. Best guess is this snake is over 2 years old.

Looks almost like any other Rock Python (python sabae) that I have ever seen. The head is slightly burm like but I still think it is a pure rock python. What is the temperment like. Most rocks are pretty agressive. Anyway, work with her and she should come around. Todd

After a couple months and several meals she still hisses when ever I touch her or pick her up. She is very agressive if she smells food and will strike anything you stick in there if you're not paying attention. I am up-ing her feeding schedule and trying to a few minutes with her each day. (I think a couple minutes daily is better than prolonged activity less frequently, but that's just me.)

I appreciate the info.

Just remember that if you are handling him and you get tagged not to immediately put it up and put it back in its enclosure. Handling him a few more minutes or just back off and let him crawl around on its own but if you put it back it might develope a conditioning that when it bites then it will get put back. Keep up the good work. Todd
