Is there really a profit in breeding bearded dragons?

moonlight_pets Jun 21, 2004 11:00 PM

I breed crested geckos and I have thought about breeding them for awhile.

I have a 2 year old male now.

I heard it was a lot of work (more then geckos) and not a lot, if any, profit. I was wondering how everyone does in the market and if it is worth it in the end?

With my babies I already have an incubator and I can understand the cleaning.

Any ideas or tips or anything....
Thanks!

From everything I've seen it takes at least a couple of years to make any money back and a $#&%load of work and that's if you have multiple breeders.

I also understand there is beginning to be a problem with too many people breeding dragons and they are becoming difficult to sell. At the same time there are a lot of breeders who simply don't care about the beardie's health and the gene pool is beginning to show this trend with weak and small animals.

If you do breed make sure you have good, big, healthy, strong, unrelated dragons to breed.

Good luck!

If you do it right the is quite a bit of profit. especially in the various morphs. your not going to make much profit off of babies unless you buy in large amounts from a breeding company. and not much if you only have 1 pair. it takes some money to get started but yes there is profit in breeding bearded dragons.

of courese there are some people making a profit, BUT look at how many breeders there are that have been around more than 2 seasons. Go to the classifieds and ask people how long they have been breeding. most drop out when they realize its not as easy as it looks.

Saw it... Wanted it... Had a fit... Got it!
