Texas Lyre Snakes

snakecatcher63 Jun 22, 2004 12:48 AM

I know this isn't the rear fanged category and I know this snake is still protected in Texas, so - please, no lectures about either !

I'm curious since I have a breeding colony of LEGAL documented pre-act specimens.....is anyone seeing these snakes while collecting in the Bend ? If so, where, what, etc.,...Thanks

I have seen them fairly regularly all around the big bend region over the years, but none the past three trips down there. Of course, now I only spend a few days a year down there versus when I lived in Terlingua.

You can find them anywhere along 118 and 170, but they certainly favor steeper rocky terrain. They move early and late in the year as well as summer. Anywhere you see lepidus and alterna you'll see Trimorphs (There, I mentioned alterna in my post so nobody jump my %$#%^ LOL!!!!).
