Do corn snakes need basking lights?

almeizy Jun 22, 2004 09:02 AM

I have a heat pad already, temp in tank is staying between 70 - 80. Not sure if I should buy a basking light as well, I only have them in a 10 gallon right now (hatchlings). I was thinking maybe just a red heat bulb, instead of an actual basking spot light? Seller told me dont need basking light, heat pad is sufficient because they dry out easily and they like it humid anyways. Any suggestions?

Basking light not needed. Red lights are great for nighttime viewing w/o disturbing your snake.

are corn snakes nocturnal?

I'm thinking they are considered diurnal (active during the day) or crepuscular (active at dawn and dusk)....I can't remember which.
