Veileds - Can you leave eggs where they buried them to incubate?

ridge Jun 22, 2004 09:23 AM

Can I just leave the eggs where my female buried them, in the bottom of a large plant? Anyone ever tried this before? They have been in there about 2 weeks now, I can move them to the incubator but I thought I might try the natural way if they will still develop alright.

As long as the temp and humidity stay in the safe level you can leave them. If they are in the cham's cage you'll have to watch for hatching so she doesn't eat them. Check the articles on egg laying, incubation, hatchlings, and also veileds on http://www.chameleonnews.com for more tips.

You *can* leave them buried, just remember to be extra attentive to stray feeders (crix, supers, etc) that may root out the eggs for a meal. I recently had three Leaf babies appear in my large tank that apparently incubated and hatched without problem and without any care concerning their incubation whatsoever. Personally I do like to dig up all of my eggs so I can have complete control over incubation, but obviously the Leafs had other ideas! Good luck.
