another newbie question

Hello all.

I just got my first crested and am thrilled! I have been doing reading for a while now and feel pretty confident about my set-up being fine (I have a post a while back about my set-up being too warm, but I was able to get the temps down).

I have had Artemis for about a week now (according to the breeder, s/he would now be about 5 weeks old), and when I check on him/her at night s/he is out and about but immediately goes into hiding in the fake plant leaves as soon as I come into view. I have been leaving my hand in the viv to try and get Artemis adjusted to me and I have tried to just sit by the viv and get him/her used to me. S/he still won't come out when I am there, but seems to wander out as soon as I leave the room.

Is there anything else I can do to get Artemis used to me? Or, should I just keep doing what I am doing and hope that s/he will eventually get more brave when I am around?

Thanks for any advice you have.

Well I think she is still abit scared and she is a baby too. babys are more flighty and jumpy than the adults are. Also it may take another week or two be fore she settles in and feels confident enough to come out in the open. Otherwise it seems that in time she will get used to you. I am getting my first cresty on monday

Hope this helps,

Grant

Thanks. I think that I just need some assurance that I am not doing something completely wrong. Good luck with your on monday!

Also, there is one more thing. The day after I got her she shed. I know that it is important to check to make sure that there isn't any old skin stuck to the toes or anything, but I can't really do so since Artemis is always hiding when I am around. Is it important enough to check for the old skin that I should take her out of hiding and risk stressing her out a lot (and probably set back the possibility of her trusting me a while), or should I just let things be?

well it is hard to say if h/s is that jumpy i would risk it h/s might lose thier tail so if everthing looks and sticks ok than h/s should be fine. hope that helps. you might want to ask Anthony about that too.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

If Anthony wants to join in with his thoughts (or anyone else, of course ) that would be great, but I don't want to pester anyone around here too much.

I have already learned a ton here and I don't want to sound too ungrateful!
