Eastern King range in Florida?

MikeMurphy Jun 22, 2004 10:58 AM

Can someone tell me what the exact range of the Eastern King is in Florida? I've looked in several field guides and they all seem to disagree. Some show the range as just the extreme north of FL, others show it coming down into North Central FL, and other have the range going ever further south. I know it gets a little muddy in the areas where they intergrade with the Florida King, but just how far south can you catch a pure Eastern? Thanks.

check the Eastern Kingsnake site and look at some of the pics there for snakes from Florida. I guess the hard part of this is what you consider a 100% eastern king and what you consider an intergrade. This is complicated by the fact that there are little pockets where they appear to intergrade with FL kings quite a bit north of FL king range.

Either way, FL has some nice looking Eastern type kings up north and some interesting intergrades here and there.
