I could be wrong, but I believe a big part of the problem is that Hawaii is home to many endangered and threatened species that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. If other animals are brought over and accidently released they could devestate the small populations of the rare local animals.

Lets say a few of those kingsnakes get loose and mate, and next thing you know kingsnakes are running rampant across the islands. Lets also say that a very convenient and easily accessable food source for these snakes just happens to be the 'akepa, a small bird. It wouldn't be long before there are no 'akepas left at all! Hawaii is home to at least 30 species of endangered birds, and introducing any animals to their habitat that should not be there could have terrible results.
