Gibson died today..

fadetolemons Jun 22, 2004 07:43 PM

We took our baby blizzard leo to the vet today, who is a reptile specialist, and after looking at him, the vet told us that he most likely had digestive problems, considering that he wasn't eating much and had lost considerable weight since the last time we had brought him in, even though he had eaten some crickets and we had him on a formula of Ensure and other vitamin supplements. He said that we had 2 options: either leave him there for a few days and let him watch him and try to get some fluids into him and stimulate his appetite etc, or just let him go, and we took the first option. Well the vet called us this evening and said that Gibson had died about an hour after we dropped him off. My girlfriend (who has been taking care of Gibson for the month we've had him) has been really upset, but I had seen it coming. Poor little guy.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. We lost our little tangerine, "Godzilla", last week. My ten year old son cried himself to sleep and was very upset for several days. I tried to explain that the animal was suffering, and that we did everything we could (including an expensive trip to the vet!) It seems there's just not much one can do once they get past a certain point. It sound like you did everything you could, as well.

Yeah, that's about what happened with us. And it worked out for the best because we brought him in to the vet and they were going to keep him for a day or two and see what they thought, and he died right after we dropped him off, so we didn't have to be there or anything for it.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. You tried everything available to help the little one. It hurts but sometimes things are just out of our control. Please have peace of mind that you at least tried.
