Help out the newbie-glossery of terms?

veefour Jun 22, 2004 07:50 PM

I'm getting a bit lost in the lingo here. Maybe someone could write up a quick glossery of terms...like
Het=??
UTH=Under Tank Heater
etc.

It honastly would be easier for you to identify the terms that you do not know and I will fill them in for you. But just to shoot blindly I could be here for a while. To start off with het is short for heterozygous which means that an animal carries only one gene of a specific trait. For example. If you breed a normal ball python with an albino ball python, then all the offspring will be normal in appearance but they all will carry one albino gene. Therefore they are all heterozygous or het for short for albino. Give me a list ok, Todd

het= heterozegus... i think thats how its spelled... if something is het for something it means that there is a percentage chance that is has the reccesive gene for that something... im confusing myself. basically. if you have a normal bp that is 66% het for albino. then there is a 66% chance that it carries the reccesive gene for albino bp.
