Mangrove monitors

haveagreenday Jun 22, 2004 08:32 PM

Hey, I'm going to get a mangrove monitor in July and I was going to build a cage for him. The dimensions are 5ft. long, 4ft. high, and 2 and a half ft. wide. Is that good enough? I'm getting a female too, if that makes a difference. Because I herd that females only get 3ft. long.

Where are you getting it from, and where do you live? Just wondering cause Im nosy. Im currently constructing an indoor/ outdoor enclosure for my Indicus group. I dont know for sure, but I THINK I have 1:2 Hahahaha. Heres the Girl Ive had since 2001. Shes about a meter, but I have no idea how old she is, as I acquired her as an adult. I actually bought her 2xs, but thats a WHOLE other story... hahahaha...

Any pics of the one youre thinking about getting?

Oh yeah... you had some questions didnt you? Hahaha. I got side tract n forgot. Anyways, just so you know, these guys are typically flighty and arent much on the "friendly" side. They tend to be nervous, prone to scratching(their main line of defense) and famous for projectile pooping and even vomiting at times.

Forgot to mention about the caging, your question, right? Lol!
Size, hmmm. I hate to say it, but its really not how big, but whats provided within. Like they say, its not the size that counts... anyways.
Indicus like to hide. From what Ive seen, indicus burrow more frquently when they dont have other options, but seem to prefer higher elevated hides alot of the time. I dont really know for sure though. Ive had mine for years, and havent produced any offspring, so maybe Im just messing up royally again. I dunno, but all I can really do is keep trying to give em what the need. You know, I would actually compare the Indicus with the Timorensis. They are pretty similar in many ways. I find the Timorensis a bit easier to work with though. Maybe cause theyre smaller? Hmmmm....

Aint he the sweetest? A side story to go with the pic. In 2002, I killed his first "wife" by having unstable cage props. She was crushed when a large rock shifted. Sometimes the bare cages are safer then the most elaborately decorated ones...
