Metronidazole to treat clostridial infection?

xelda Jun 22, 2004 08:43 PM

My vet did a flotation and smear for my leopard gecko and told me he had clostridial bacteria. She said these are naturally occuring bacteria in gut flora, but that stress had probably caused them to increase to excessive levels. She prescribed .1 cc of 5MG/ML Metronidazole to be given once a day for 10 days. Before I administer the medicine, I'd like to know if anyone has had experience with this and if this dosage sounds correct?

I appreciate any help! My leo is eating and gaining weight without any problems, but he has had a few loose stools with mucous. The stress could probably be from shipping, since I just received him two weeks ago.

I have used this med for one of my leos beforee w/ good results. I believe dosage was more or less the same. What's your pets weight? I had good results.
