Opinions needed on heating for a 40g tank.

ran_dogg Jun 22, 2004 09:17 PM

Hey guys, I need some advice. I recently purchased a 40 gallon breeder tank (36x18x16) and I am trying to decide between two cobra heat mats. I'm not sure if the 11x11 30-40g model will provide enough heat for a nice gradient. Should I go with the smaller 11x11 mat or the next size up, which is 11x17? Thanks.

p.s. thanks for looking, heres a picture of one of my geckos.

I'm not sure what to tell you as far as the heating goes, but that is one great looking leo.

Although the smaller one would probably work, I like to use a bigger one with a thermostat to prevent it from running full blast all the time. Then again, depending on where you live, the smaller one might work. I know here in Wisconsin the winter gets really cold so I would use the bigger one. But if you're down south or something you should be able to use the smaller one. Either way, use a thermostat! Even a cheap dimmer-style one. I had some leos almost fry when I was gone for a weekend, and have sinced gone to thermostats on all my cages and racks. Just my $.02
