My two new Trans Pecos

gardenmum Jun 22, 2004 09:55 PM

Wow, I really like these guys. I have had corns for a while now and have a bunch hatching out but decided to venture in a couple other species. These Subocs and a pair of Columbian Red Tails. I love the colors of these guys and the patterns thay have. I hope to add a blonde or axanthic blonde this fall.

This is the female. She is an 02' I named Lady.

This is the little 03' boy I named Stitches. I am looking forward to watching his color changes.

Very nice looking Trans Pecos. I noticed you said you couldn't wait for your male to change color. So your male is going to change to the more yellow/golden color like your female? I have an 03 female, and here is her pic. She looks about the color of your 03 male. So do all normal phase Trans Pecos change color slightly as they get older? Thanks,

Steve

Yes, just like any species of snake, they gain their adult color as they mature. I would expect the male to get more yellowish toned. Of course, they all don't look exactly the same in color intensity, etc. but he will definitely gain his colors as he matures.
Your girl should change a bit as she reaches maturity too. Compare photo's of her next year to this years.

WOW! Very nice...I'd like to pick up a pair of them next year. I think its healthy to diversify your collection. I also think most people burn out quick if they only work with one species all the time over several years. I love corns and they'll always be my favorite for their ease of care and friendly behaviors, but I cannot help to work with all the other beauties out there. I've been cruising the ratsnake forum (among others) for 2 years now and just now decided to start obtaining some rats after 10 years of keeping herps.

No doubt about it Jason, it is nice to have a mix of corns, rats, and kings. If you get an Trans Peco I have no doubt your going to love them. Very laid back. She's even more relaxed then my Grey Banded King. I also love Bairdi Ratsnakes, and have one on order later this summer. Both are two of my personal favorites.

There are so many snakes, so little time (and money). I browse the classifieds daily and must say that prices seem to be higher than I ever remembered, especially morphs. I think demand is pretty high for any and all designer/morph snakes across all species. This will surely drive some of us to the beauty of 'natural' snakes. In fact, I don't think there is a morph out there for any snake species that I prefer over the natural form. Anyway, I have my eye on a few other colubrids/rat snakes to diversify even more but its a matter of timing, availability and funds (of course>LOL).

At any rate, bairds currently seem to be one of the few great deals out there for a beautiful, yet inexpensive new addition and variety.
