Outdoor sunning question

Lint Jun 22, 2004 10:56 PM

Hello!
For all of those people with veiled chameleons (and i know there is a lot of you) how many have a seperate cage outside for your cham mine is goona be primarily inside for safety reasons but i live in SoCal so the weatheris nice out here alot but in my yard lots of crazy birds so thats why his main cage will be inside so my main question is if my chams cage is not a permanent outdoor cage does the cage I use for outdoor sdunning really have to be that big? i men if hes only gonna be out there for a few hours does it really have to be that big?

THANKS! ALL REPLIES WELOME!

I wouldn't say so, if it's only a temporary cage. You would do fine with a 2x2x3 or 2x2x4 (preferably) reptarium. I don't know how big that is in gallons...becuase that's how they sell them. The low-quality screen doesn't matter if it's temporary, he won't be fed outdoors.

Yeah I wouldn't worry about using a smaller cage, just make sure that he/she can get to shade if he/she wants. When it's in the upper 80's my chams only bask in the sun 10-15 minutes then seek shade the rest of the time.

LLLReptile.com usually has very good prices on thier reptariums. I would check there first I can almost guarantee it will be cheaper there than at pet smart.

Update I just checked LLLReptile.com web page and thier reptariums are currently on special so you can get a really good price on them.

As long as your cham has a choice of sunnier or shady spots in the cage it doesn't have to be big. Some chams fret if the cage is TOO small...they feel vulnerable. I usually drape a towel or sheet over part of the cage both to block the view of possible predators and to provide escape shade and security for the cham.
