Aggresive Breeding Behavior!?

Gecko_Freak Jun 22, 2004 11:09 PM

I am an owner of a twelve month old female crested gecko. My friend is the owner of an eighteen month old male crested gecko which is the same size as mine. We have planned for a long time to breed them once my female became "of age". Just today we decided to introduce them to each other. We were each holding our own so that they would feel more comfortable. At first they showed no sign of aggressiveness at all. They were even licking each other! We felt that they would get along and set them down to watch. My Female just sat there as the male was licking her and then hopped to the other side of the cage. The male followed almost instantly and surprisingly, bit the female on the side of the stomach and rolled like an alligator would. Meanwhile the female showed no signs of aggressiveness at all. Does anyone know why this happened and how I could safely re-introduce then breed these geckos???

Honestly with all of my geckos they just are very aggresive together when prepareing to breed whne i put a male into a cage with a female when i first got the male he jumped on her bit the back of her neck, base of legs, back etc. they like make noises when they were fighting none of them seriously injured but they both have marks from were theyve been bitten though mainly around the neck. That ahs calmed down with all of my geckos now there alll calm and healthy just making eggs and eating and thats about there routine lol hope i oculd help

Thank you I wasn't sure if this was normal. But how long will it take for them to get used to each other, and do I have to worry about her tail?
