R these mites?

pyxis Jun 23, 2004 01:12 AM

I obtained a gtp 14 mos ago. It's 20 mos old. My reptile collection is mainly turtles and tortoises. Anyway, under or on some of my gtp's scales are grayish cloudy spots. They almost look like the change of color the scales had from yellow to green. I've seen no wondering adult mites. Nor do I see any near the eyes or mouth regions. Nor does my gtp lack appetite. I've searched the internet for pics of mites on gtp, but have not found any. I also have tried to take pics of what I described, but the cloudy spots don't show up well in the pic. I'm including the pic anyway. Does anyone have pics of any gtp with mites?
Thanks,
Pyxis

I don't have a GTP (I wish I did ) but I have had mites before. Really the only way to diagnose is when you see them crawling around the cage or crawling around the snake. If you want to run a test take a white paper towel, form it to your hand, and run it down the snake. Then check the paper towel. Mites can be many different colors with babys being an opaque color. They don't seem terribly hard to get rid of on one snake, if they were on your entire collection I could foresee a migrane or two.
