BOYCOTT BREEDERS

Meghan20 Jun 23, 2004 02:53 AM

I have loved bearded dragons for years and I'm always excited and curious about new color phases and patterns people come up with. But in the past six months or so I've noticed a new "color" that seems to be growing quite popular. Translucent bearded dragons. For those of you who don't already know, a translucent beardie is a new morph that has black eyes and skin that actually is translucent...meaning you can see its insides through its skin. When I first saw a breeder trying to sell these I figured that people would be disgusted (as I was) and the idea of translucent beardies would fade out. But I'm seeing more and more breeders selling them! How can people do this? There is no way these beardies can be healthy. Just look at them! They look like little diseased aliens! I just saw another picture of a translucent beardie and it made me so sick and angry, I started crying. I beg all of you to help me and help all bearded dragons and boycott these breeders who have gone too far. Don't buy the translucents or anything else from people who sell them. I know its hard not to buy the translucents just to get them away from their corrupt breeder but in the long run its for the best. Please, please, please help! No creature deserves life as a sickly freak of nature.

Everyone thought that albinos were sick and freaks too....

All I am saying is that I would rather know about their real health as opposed to their perceived health before I bought or condemned anyone or anything.

What is your basis for saying they are unhealthy? I'm just curious.

I think you're really overreacting to this. It's just a new morph is all, and from what I've heard from people who have them, just as healthy as any other dragon. All it is is a form of albinoism, the cells that produce white don't fire so you end up with translucence in the areas that would usually be white. Maybe Paul will come on here and explain it better than I can.

I thnk you need to do a bit more home work before going off the deep end. I have spoken to The Sandfire Dragon Ranch who I think to be a very reputable breeder and they say that this morph has been one of the hardiest, best eating, and fastest grower morphs they have had.
