what else can i feed my little pacman?

vtbigyellow Jun 23, 2004 03:41 AM

hey everyone, i picked up a pacman at a show a couple weeks ago, hes about 1.5-2 inches. right now i feed him gutloaded medium size crickets (about 5 every other day) that are occasionally dusted w/ calcium, D3, and vitamins. i just wanted to know what else i could/should feed him? at what size should i start feeding nightcrawlers, and can i feed him the kind that are sold for bait? thanks everyone~`

feeder frogs and fish. mealworms, etc

too much of nightcrawlers is no good. so use them only as a treat.

locust and earthworms are what i use most commonly, i have used meal worms and superworms but tend to avoid using these if ive anything else around (which is 85% of the time). i also use waxworms every now and again, their more fatty so i dont use these a lot

nightcrawlers are better than fish. I use crickets and nightcrawlers as my staple and work around that with mealies, supers, waxies, hissers, and whatever other insects I can collect or buy.

these nightcrawlers you use, are they the same kind sold for fishing bait? also, do they have to be gutloaded in the same manner as crickets? thanks for the suggestions everyone~

Nightcrawlers are implicated with abnormal muscle developement in Rana catesbiana when fed as the sole food item. Additionally they are only a good source of calcium when kept in an calcium enriched soil (not the "soil" they come in). Fish such as mollies, some of the small sunfish and mosquito fish have been shown to be a complete diet when fed to anurans as the sole diet with no incidence of "MBD" unlike the other commonly recommended food items. The fish have to be alive to prevent problems with thiamine deficency.
