the two side walls are surrounded by wood from my entertainment center...probably very similar to the wood from the bookshelf you want to use...it had a protective finish so it doesn't absord water and rot. The back wall is just the wall of my house. of course those three sides of the cage also have screen walls which cuts down on the amount of water that gets to the wood.
Also, since i posted the picture i made a change to the front of the cage and added a panel of glass that covers about 75% with the other 25% being screen for ventilation

I'll try to post a pic of my bookshelf before and after i'm done with it. I'll probably need to cover the inside walls as they are plywood and probably do absorb water.
