You are wrong...
Eric has produced Black-Eyed Leucistics...
I have not...

I am most impressed that you claim to have produced the same number of Black-Eyed Leucistics that Eric has...
I am most impressed that you have been able to keep this "secret"...

I would love to see pictures of some of your Black-Eyed Leucistics...
I would bet that the majority of forum participants would also love to see pictures of the Black-Eyed Leucistics that you have produced...

Please post some pictures of the Black-Eyed Leucistics that you have hatched...
You don't have to take pictures of all of them...
One or two would be fine...

Thanks very much...

BallBoutique Jun 23, 2004 09:14 PM

Perhaps I should have asked how many did you produce this year. That was my intent of the question. He was giving Ralph praise for what he has produced this year. That was the intent of my question. No I do not have a lucy. Perhaps I will never own one.
Hope this helps you with my post.

Oh...so I was correct...Eric has produced more Black-Eyed Leucistics than you have...
Thanks for clearing that up...

Now I know that you originally intended to ask the question "How many Black-Eyed Leucistics did you produce this year?"...
That's kind of unusual for you...
Your questions are usually so...precise...

I would be very surprised if Eric answered your "revised" question...
Breeders of high-end morphs generally tend to disclose little information regarding numbers produced...
Some do...
Most do not...

>>I happen to be one of those breeders who would prefer not to discuss the number of Lucies produced in my collection, see... You can try to beat it out of me, but I have to tell you I won't roll easily. Whatever you do... Please DON'T sic that spunky 'lil wife of yours on me, no, no, nooooOOOoooo...

Best wishes to you and yours, Brit Boy...!...TW

Hopefully, soon...

"Breeders of high-end morphs generally tend to disclose little information regarding numbers produced..."

IMHO that's a real shame but I suppose it's to be expected when so much money is involved. I think even with the fair number of disclosed offspring from RDR's original platy that when you put it into perspective of how many people would actually want one of these it's not even a drop in the bucket. Also, seeing Mr. Davis' production so far provides a good object lesson as to what a prospective customer might hope to do with one in a few years. Sure more snakes are going to eventually lead to lower prices but with good production you are still talking about a good return. I think everyone is going to assume the breeders of high-end morphs are producing a lot anyway so why not just provide accurate information and foster good will?

Renaissance Jun 24, 2004 04:06 PM

"...so why not just provide accurate information and foster good will?"

Breeders very rarely give away high-end morphs...for free...
They generally have a significant investment in these high-end morphs...financial investment...investment of time and resources...etc...
If breeders were publicly traded companies, they would be required to provide certain information about their business and business practices...
How much information do you think that the majority of corporations in the world would provide...if they were not required to...???

The business of high-end morphs is exactly that...a business...
If you think otherwise, you are mistaken...
Sure...some may "love the animals"...but you still don't see them giving away high-end morphs for free...

Sure...the posting of complete and accurate breeding information would generate goodwill from some...
But it would most definitely engender an upswelling of jealousy in others...
Not to mention the competitive advantage that it would provide to your business competitors...
Not to mention the expenditure of resources that would be required to compile and present all of this information in a format that the "goodwill seekers" would like to see...

By the way...
I seem to recall that you keep and breed ball pythons...
I can't seem to find any complete and accurate breeding records of every pairing that you did this year...
What "lines" they are...
With the pedigrees and photographs of each breeder animal...preferably for the past 6 generations...
What clutches you produced...
When the eggs were laid...
How many...
What the eggs weighed...
What went bad...
What hatched...
Gram weights at hatching...
First shed dates...
Type and quantity of food eaten to date...
Accurate and realistic photographs of each animal...from above...from both sides...and, most importantly, belly shots...

These are the types of questions that I have seen folks asking breeders about their breeding activities...
I have searched and searched, but I just can't seem to find this information about your breeding activities this year...
You may not be breeding on the scale of the "big breeders", but there are many with less animals than yourself that would surely be interested in this information about your breeding activities...

That is certainly some comprehensive breeding information...

I was unaware that Randy had a web site...
I have seen and read some of his posts on this forum, and on others...
But I did not know about his web site...

Randy...
Perhaps you could add a link to your web site in your signature line...
I am sure that there are many people that would find the information on your web site to be extremely informative and useful...

I was clearly wrong in stating that Randy did not provide information about his breeding activities...
And I happily retract the statements that I made concerning Randy asking for information that he himself did not provide...

Unless anyone has any other information that I am unaware of, I still stand behind my statements that the breeding of high-end morphs is a business...
And this is why you will usually not see the breeders of these animals providing the type and quantity of information that many would like to see...

RandyRemington Jun 25, 2004 08:51 AM

Point taken though because my site still has last year's info and not this year's. I'm running way late this year and only have one egg that I feel good about hatching in the incubator so far (another has a nipple deformity, two others where good looking but infertile and 3 slugs, what a clutch . I’m still feeling pretty guilty about not finding time to update my web site even if I probably will not hatch anything worth shipping again this year.

However, my thinking was that providing lots of information might actually be good for business. I don't know this for sure, but it would be interesting if there was some way to compare to see if RDR and SnakeKeeper are actually at an advantage due to the extra info they are working hard to provide. I know I've bought snakes from big breeders with almost no background info but I don't worry about it too much because I trust most breeders. However, I think that should a situation arise where I actually had the money at the same time that two breeders had the same product at the same price I would go with the one who had pics and background info posted. Perhaps as the market becomes more competitive there will be more incentive and reward for those who spend the huge amount of time to provide extra information to prospective customers. My thinking is that when you add up all the e-mails to all the perspective buyers answering questions before you get it sold you might as well have posted all the information for everyone first but then again I haven’t sold that many snakes and nothing high end so what do I know.
