Leopard tortoise lumpy shell

benA Jun 23, 2004 10:58 AM

What's the deal with lumps on a leopard tortoise. I got my leopard 1 year ago. He was 5 months at the time and weighed 4.1oz. Today he is 17 months and is 15.9oz. I have tried to do everything right. I feed him 70% grasses, two soaked mazuri every couple days, plus cactus, dandilion, hibiscus, ficus, wandering jew, mixed in. I soak the grasses and whatever else I am mixing in and then chop them up bite size. He has always loved the grasses which I thought was a great success since I have read many stories about torts not eating grasses. And of course I have the UVB bulbs, temps 80 - 95 degrees. I let him outside everyday if I can in the summer. I live in Minnesota so I can only get him outside 3 months a year. And I give him vitamins, calcium with D3 couple/3times a week and straight calcium everyday. He eats everything i give him but always wants more. I feed him once a day in the morning. And then he spends the rest of the day hunting for more food. The amount of food I give him is a nicely chopped small pile that would easily fit in your cupped hand.

Am I way overfeeding him or what? Am I missing something. Plus is there a way to post pics right in this message without a link to a URL?

Thanks, Ben

What kind of humidity are you talking? I'll bet with the temperatures that high (which is good) I'll bet it is also dry.
Try providing a humid hide box.
Also... can you post a picture to see what you are calling pyramided?

I honestly do not know how humid it is in his enclosure. I could add humidity I suppose. I have been unsure what level of humdity was good.

y the way, how do you post an image? I have them but I do not see how to do that besides giving a url where the images already exist? Can anyone help with that?

Thanks, Ben
