check out my new enclosure

stkkts Jun 19, 2003 10:29 PM

This is a 24" x 24" x 36" all screen enclosure. I am using it for a Tokay gecko and a Skunk gecko. My tokay is very Docile and so far there hasnt been an incident between the two. I wanted to get some peoples opinion on the setup. sorry for the blurriness of some of the shots.

i really like the way u used the 3 pieces of wood and the rope...its simple, effective, and its still attractive! hmm.... since im bringing the new cages i just built at my dads place home.... maybe ill have 2 try that... do u just put poyeurathane minwax sealant on them... for when you spray? thats wot im using to put on the inside of the cages im making. btw, that last pic is adorable! do u have any body shots of your skunk gecko? i dont believe i have ever seen any but i may have come across 1 @ a show and didnt realize it.

I didnt put any sort of protectant on the wood. do you think this is bad? i can always pull the stuff out and seal it if i had to. although i dont think it will warp. Or is there another reason for doing? If the sealant if for the benefit of the animals than I will definately do it. If its just to protect the wood, then im not overly worried about it.
Thanks for the compliments, the setup was so easy to make. just a drill and a dremel. the wood was cut for me at home depots. all i had to do was drill the holes, sand it smooth, and run the roping. Then i just used 5 screws in each post to keep it planted firmly.
These are the pictures of my skunk gecko. I took these about 4 days after i got him. I had him in an enclosure that was a 20 gallon long, which was split in half, so him and the tokay wouldnt come into contact in such a small enclosure. He was extremely stressed out. so his coloring is rather dismal, and he hadnt eaten at this point, so he is looking rather....ethiopian (hence the name starvin marvin) But he has graduated to eating baby food, and hopefully meal worms soon. I hope for him to turn a slightly green shade, and for the white stripe down his back to improve significantly.

it wont hurt the herps either way it will just make the wood easier to clean if it gets poopy lol. the skunk is really cool. is he the size and temperment of the tokay? i know how nasty they usually are. hmmm... i might have to research those skunks tho! sigh here i go again!

he is about as long, but not nearly as meaty. and he wont get as big. i think about 9 inches, where tokay are about 11-16 i believe. Everyone says they use the same care sheet, so the habitat works for both of them. As far as temperment goes.....not even close. My tokay is extremely docile, ever since the day i got him. he lets me pet his head, but will still snap at me when he gets tired of it, but he isnt as aggressive as most others. He doesnt hold on if he bites. The skunk on the other hand is really mellow. not too fast, and not aggressive at all.

as far as "here we go again" I know exactly what you mean. I want a golden gecko but can wait on that for now. I was really considering a snapping turtle, but all my friends said "NO" and banned me from buying anymore pets. the golden i can sneak past my roomates and GF. but there is no way i am getting a snapping turtle past them. =)
