How to gauge temp accurately with a thermometer?

violentxuprising Jun 23, 2004 12:53 PM

Hi everyone,
i just got my UTH and the 500R thermostat, my question is where and how should i place my thermometer (regular analog) to read the temp of the hot zone? i know it's got to be in the 85-90s, but is that when i place my thermometer right on top of the substrate above the UTH and get a 85-90? or should i stick the thermometer on the glass above the hot zone and get an ambient 85-90? thanks.

You want to check the temps on the surface your gecko will be on, just above the UTH. If you were to get your ambient temps that high, the substrate would probably be scorching.

Target has digital probe thermometers (indoor/outdoor) for $10 and Pro Exotics has temp guns for $25. I use both and find them indispensable.

Good luck
