alligator lizard eggs

wileybob Jun 23, 2004 01:21 PM

Hello,
I have some questions. I have three alligator lizards. two copper colored southern, and one blue gray southern. they are all in the same cage, the two copper colored lizards i have had since hatchlings, the blue gray is new 2 days and is laying eggs wherever. im sure she is quite nerv. she has made no attempt to bury or keep the eggs together.
she was rescued from a cat by a friend of mine who knew i had a pair so she brought it over. one of the copper A.L. wants nothing to do with her and will not share the same hiding spots.
First question:
do i need to seperate them, they dont fight.
next:
should i take the eggs out of the cage?
how do i care for them?
will the other lizards eat them?
if they are cared for propperly how long before i have some new blue gray hatchlings?

Can't answer most of your questions,(as I have never mixed species/sub-species) but I have caught wild alligator lizards and had them lay and hatch successfully.

First, they should be left alone when laying. Your female is probably being disturbed by the presence of the others--thus the egg scattering. (The ones I had, always dug and laid the clutch in a bunch, like most other lizards.) She is probably done by now, but I would remove the others from the cage, until she finishes laying.

Place the eggs in damp vermic., half buried, like most other lizards. I hatched mine at slightly warmer than normal room temps. (around 72-80)
