Dylan... Your homework assignment for tonight is to go to the bottom of the kingsnake forum and read EVERY SINGLE POST. If you have a question about a post, write it down. When you get done with the entire page, try to list your questions by number, and we'll answer them in that order. If you are starving for more information when you get done, go to the second page and read all those posts (little numbers down at the bottom of the kingsnake forum will lead you to page 2, page 3 etc.) If you want to learn how to breed mice to feed to your snakes, go to the feeder forum, FIRST read the first page of posts, SECOND post your questions about feeders. I know you feel like you are doing research here on this forum by asking the questions... but FIRST read, SECOND ask questions. You learn more that way. (I'm a high school teacher, I know a little about learning).
To answer your questions...
Designer Cal Kings cost money. If you want to know a good variety of prices for nearly every kind of cal king available, go to the top of the kingsnake forum and click on Lonesome Valley Reptiles. Kerby has just about all varieties I've heard about... including his prices. (maybe (?) a little high, but who can argue with quality?)
A 40 gallon aquarium will be the right size for your adult cal king. NO you may not house two of them together, cal kings are snake eaters... they'll eat each other.
If you go to a pet store to buy mice to breed, you can expect to wait at least six weeks before you get your first litter. The mice you buy are probably barely weaned, and if so, it'll be a good three weeks before they breed, another three weeks before they have babies. Then you hope they have enough to feed your kings, but it won't be long before you have pinkies that have grown up and are too large to feed your snake. If you just have one or two snakes, it is not economical or feasible to raise your own feeders. I started with four snakes, and started raising mice. Found I had too many mice, so I bought more snakes to feed mice to. Now I have reached the perfect equilibrium point... approximately 30 snakes and a shed full of mice and rats. The furry critters get approximately 100 lbs of feed every MONTH at max production.
Now DON'T forget your homework assignment. People here love to answer questions, but if it is apparant that you have read up and have questions on what you read, it feels better. A lot of us were newbies at one point or another... and most of us who STICK with it read EVERYTHING we could on the topic before we asked questions, while waiting for answers, and after receiving answers.
