what are the best places to catch fence lizards they are like anoiles but i often see them basking around my house then they dart off real fast

You didn't tell us where you live so it's hard to figure out what kind of terrain you are seeing them in.
In Central Florida they are most often found either on fallen logs or on rough-barked trees. They always like to keep thetrunk of the tree between them and you. If you note their location you just reach around the tree and grab them.
Before you collect any of them you need to be sure that you have the proper facilities for them that mimic the natural habitat. You also need to make sure they have the proper lighting and food.
Since they are a local animal for you maybe it would be better just to enjoy their antics in the wild. You can become a "Lizard Watcher" and enjoy them any time you want without having to burden yourself with their care.

thanx a lot i live in central new jersey right by a gravel pit i often see them basking on logs and such but when u get to close they zoom outta there
