Ok so griff (my bts) seems to be doing better. His belly is no where near as red as it was. I have put the poor bugger in a 10 gallon with the BARE essentials. He has paper towels as a substrate, and a paper bag as a hide, both of which get sprayed down with de flea and thrown out every day. I clean out his tank with deflea instead of bleach...i thought this would be a good plan. Between de flea treatments (every 3 days) he is covered in snake oil once a day. This should sufocate the buggers. I also squirt some in his ears and use a cotton bud to gently wipe out the clever mites that hide in there. He is, needless to say, a miserable bugger presently. I feel so bad, but my fiance keeps telling me that he will feel better soon...and i think that griffon knows that i am helping him. THye are rather smart.
My questions are: Is it safe to put him into his big tank after i get my provent a mite and spray it down? 2) i feel that the mites came from a second hand hide i bought at a reptile expo and didnt bleach *slaps forehead...doh! how real is the threat to my other animals? Can mites climb the glass of a 55g? and 3) how long should i keep up this regimine of deflea and snake oil and disposable hides? How long is the mite's life cycle?
Thanks for reading. PS this is posted in the skink foroms too,...)
