repairing eggs

lasergrl Jun 23, 2004 11:27 PM

Hi,

I found some box turtle eggs in my enclosure, they were partially buried, some not. One of the eggs is torn open, but somehow the embryo still has a heartbeat. I think these eggs are about a week or so old. I put some saran wrap over the egg the best I could. Is there something I can do to save it, or is it destined to die? the top 1/4 of the shell is completely missing. I cant believe its still alive actually!

I think you already know the answer to your question. Sorry to say it but i would think trying to salvage an embryo without a shell would be a losing battle and just prolong the enevitable.

the yolk designed to nourish the growing turt would surely dry out before hatching time. Best of luck to you and hope the rest of the hatchlings make it!
Matt
