Bearded Dragon cage

Slaytallica Jun 24, 2004 12:48 AM

Hey,

My grandfather built me a really nice 4Lx3Dx3h cage for my beardie, and I was wondering what you guys use to coat your wood in reptile enclosures? my grandpa also painted it so it smells STRONG. I know a ton of stuff is toxic so I thought I'd certainly ask you guys first. Thank you in advance

At the more durable end I have used pool-paint epoxies and fiberglass resin. I have also used a less toxic epoxy called envirotex a couple of times.

For my bearded dragon cage I just used a water-based polyurethane over a stain. I believe the stain was also water-based. He scratched up the floor pretty bad so I covered that with a scrap piece of vinyl flooring.

Find out exactly what your grandfather used and post back here. I can then give you some recommendations on how long to wait for curing, etc.

The most important issue will be if the paint was water or oil based.
