He croaked!

blueyedtreefrog Jun 24, 2004 09:01 AM

Lastnight I was sitting in the room where my White's Tree Frog is and out of no where he started croaking. The only other time I heard him do this was when I picked him up. I figured that he croaked as defense because sometimes he would pee.

Is he croaking because he's looking for a mate?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me!

I remember the first time i heard my male croak....it was 3 am and i had no idea what the heck it was! lol, but i was so happy when i figured it out. now he croaks every morning at 8 when my alarm goes off (either the beeping sound really attractive or really annoying....we'll never know!) so hes nt necessarily looking for a mate, and dont feel you need to get him one unless you plant to breed in the future. when i had my female alone i bought her a similar sized green glass buddah, and she seemed to like to sit beside it at night, she either thought it was another frog, or liked the nice smooth glass, so if he gets really lonley, you could try that!

Thanks a lot for the info. I also was wondering, I have some moss on the floor of his tank and I would like to add something underneath that for a little more insulation. What materail would be good to use?

I use organic potting soil under bed-a-best (basicly moss...) as substraite. just microwave the soil for a few minutes to kill anything nasty living in it.

So, he croaks because he's happy? I just want to make sure that he's ok.
