Hatchling sizes

Lucien Jun 20, 2003 12:05 AM

Okay.. here's the thing.... My first clutch hatched out on.. April 4th 2003. The hatchlings are now 2 and a half months old.... Now the Blizzard male I got out of that clutch is huge... almost hitting the 6 inch mark at 10 weeks old..His clutchmate however is tiny... very tiny....s/he still looks like a couple week old hatchling... And no I don't have them housed together so it isn't lack of food keeping her small. The clutch that hatched After that one, are both bigger than she is and they're younger. I'm not sure why s/he's staying so small.. s/he's put on weight though...Anyone have any ideas?

ok i know this is going to sounds dumb, but is she eating and if so what? maybe she prefers one food item over another? does she have any defects like maybe her eyes, and she cant see the food very well?. she could just be a runt, i mean if she is thats a small runt but maybe??? how do her stools look?

She eats a stable diet of mealworms supplemented...gut loaded.. I breed my own.. and the other 3 are all thriving on them... I've tried small crickets but none of them save the big male want them.. I raised them on mealworms as their first food.. Took right to them.. I guess she might be a runt.. I dunno..the egg she hatched out of was huge.. It had swollen to twice its clutchmates size...yet she's much smaller than her Blizzard clutchmate.. I dunno.. I was just curious about why she might be staying so small...I'll probably end up keeping her though instead of selling her.. Both my Het. Blizzards are high yellows too.. she has a lot of orange to her too.. so we'll see what happens I guess....
