Community tanks for kings and milks?

U4EA Jun 24, 2004 12:20 PM

While I have kept a number of herps in the past, I have never had experience with kings or milks personally.

I am looking to set up a large enclosure for 3 or 4 snakes, and I am wondering if it feasible to keep multiple kings/milks together? Do their cannabilistic tendancies make this impossible/too risky?

Thanks in advance.

You should only house one king snake per enclousre or you might wind up with one large snake! If you are going to keep an enclousre with 3-4 snakes rat snakes would be the better pick here. Just make sure they are all of equal size.

Kings together without any problem of cannibalism. A couple pairs of Florida Kings and a pair of Easterns. I do try and feed them on opposites sides of their cage though.

I'm glad you haven't had any problems so far...but personally I think it's just a matter of time before you do. If I was you I'd separate them ASAP,I don't care how long they've been together with no trouble. It's just a matter of time. But that's just my opinion.

Yes you can get away with it for awhile. Eventually one will think the other looks tastey and you will come home to a fat snake with part of a tail sticking out it's mouth. Then at best the eater will regurg in a day or two and that is the nastiest smell in the world. There have been cases where the eater gets over stressed from the large meal and also dies so now you are out 2 snakes and it all is completely preventable.
