Normal?

Well I've had my new baby Nile for 2 days now. He's eating great and very active during the day. When I go to pick him up he hisses and tries to run away and once attempted to tail whip me. However, he has yet to try and bite me. I've heard that non-biting Niles are like 1/100. Is mine that 1? Or does it still need more time acclimating to it's new home?

He dose need to get use to his new surroundings and all niles are going to bite you, and if there big it will hurt like hell! But if you work with him he mite not be as bitey.

Remember you've only had it 2 days and in my oppinion is too early to tell anything. Its also my oppinion that its way too early to start handling it. I have a hatchling water monitor that i received 5/26/04 that i have yet to handle and it appears that hes doing great , even eats out of my hand as we begin to trust each other more. To me its a process that takes a lot of steps of trust that may or may not allow me to pick it up in the long run but it appears to be leaning in that direction. It also takes alot more the 2 days for it to get use to its new enclosure i.e. acclimate. Give it some time to feel secure in its new surroundings and to understand your purpose and intentions then you may have it coming to you to explore you more rather than the other way around. Just my thoughts.
