Help getting female who laid back on feed?

wallyworld Jun 24, 2004 02:37 PM

Looking for tips/tricks to get a female back on feed after laying 7 perfect eggs?

I have tried washing her with a mild soap, and I have completely changed the tub that she was in however it has been 3 weeks since she laid and she refuses to eat.

The other female that laid for me has since been back to her normal eat-everytime-offered self, and it only took 3 days after laying for her to bounce back.

Any help would be appreciated.

if she usually eats live try maybe scenting the rat with gerbil bedding or maybe try not feeding for like 2 weeks & see if hunger will trigger her to strike...she may just not be hungry right this second

did you wash her and the cage down after you took the eggs out? that is what the ball pythong breeding video suggests you do.

This isn't uncommon. I had a female last year lay 7 eggs and then not feed for close to 3 months. If she is in a rack unit, try moving her to a new shelf. Asside from that, just keep offering food. She'll eat when she wants to.

I assume that she did not breed the next year? I am really hoping to get her back into shape for this fall since she is my largest female.

Thanks,
Rob

Throw her in a box or bag, and take her for a ride in the car (bumpy ride). Alot of snakes will start feeding after you do things that "should" discourage them from eating. Other than that, you can just wait, and she will eat when she is ready. Try smaller rats too.
